Investment Philosophy

Lux believes outsized investment returns are correlated with investing in areas where attention and capital is scarce. Lux willfully shuns herd investing and seeks to invest ahead of others or in areas where other investors are not yet looking. When we can’t find the right companies to back, we’ll often create them ourselves. The Lux investment team has built more than 20 companies from inception.

Lux’s investments typically derive from one of three differentiated tactics:

Thesis-driven - based upon a novel, often variant, view of opportunities, technologies and markets. We intentionally seek companies that can be leaders within their industries, with a unique approach and few competitors.

People-driven - backing leading entrepreneurs and scientists we identify and build trusted relationships with over time. These are the same visionaries and business builders - who because of their judgment, integrity and execution - we intend to support over multiple ventures in the years ahead.

Special situations - resulting from capital market dislocations, illiquid syndicates, recapitalizations and corporate pressure - leading to spin-offs, mispricings and other opportunistic situations.
