The
original ideas, projections and strategies in Lux Capital's 2001
"The Nanotech Report" introduced institutional
investors to nanotechnology on a worldwide basis, first with Merrill
Lynch and most recently through Credit Suisse First Boston. The
Nanotech Report was the first to recommend following government
funding as a driver to invest in nanotech tool providers. Many of
the other trends we identified in The Nanotech Report have
become the basis for corporate and investment strategies.
The Nanotech
Report 2003
reveals new public market and private equity investment themes,
profiles more than 700 public and private companies, and analyzes
the intellectual property positions of major corporations and startups
to help identify potential winners and losers. The Nanotech Report
2003 uncovers leading government laboratories and academic researchers
at the forefront of nanotechnology, ranks the most influential people
in the field and highlights venture capital and worldwide government
funding trends.
Nanotechnology,
the manipulation and control of matter at the molecular level, has
widely been recognized as critical for the future of economic and
regional competitiveness, job creation, and technological superiority.
In The Nanotech Report 2003, we demonstrate how nanotechnology
affects every existing industry, from Chemicals, Textiles/Apparel,
Computing and Storage, to Transportation, Energy, Power, Healthcare
and Homeland Security.
In 2003, there will be more than $3 billion of government funding
worldwide going towards centers of nanoscale research. Nanotechnology
is the Bush Administration's highest science and technology priority
in the 2004 fiscal year. On May 7, 2003 the U.S. House of Representatives
approved a $2.4 billion bill to continue the United States' National
Nanotechnology Initiative over the next three years. Nanotechnology
will be the largest government-funded science program since the
Space Race, exceeding even the Human Genome Project.
This report provides a roadmap for the nanotechnology industry and
illustrates how senior executives and investors can exploit the
prevailing trends to maintain a competitive advantage.

"Corporate executives
should leverage The Nanotech Report as a guidebook to understand and take
advantage of this vast technological change."
-- George Elling, Managing Director, Deutsche Bank Technology Group
"A superb industry and technology primer, The Nanotech Report shows investors
a rare insider's view into the leading nanotechnology research labs. This
report gives a clear and sober perspective of the nanotechnology revolution
that will provide investors and scientists the edge they need to compete
in this field." -- Charles Musgrave, Ph.D., Stanford University (First
Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology, 1993)
"This is a marvelous
piece of work. In terms of significance and potential impact, The Nanotech
Report reminds me of Morgan Stanley's The Internet Report when I was co-writing
it. This is the definitive study and investor road map for the nanotechnology
industry. Whether you're a scientist, investor, or technology entrepreneur,
it's clear---these guys get it."
